if you are asking about me still using this computer then no, i didn't fixed it.:) it was running since i brought it home from from rotten storage room at work, i put another hdd in it, installed windows, overclocked and everything is running smooth :D. i even upgraded ram to 256mb. btw do you? know about any good PCI slot video card, not pci express, but the white PCI slot. this computer has only those slots aviable and integrated video card is only 8MB :(

Video was taken in 2/2009 so Vista was only 6 months old, while I had been using Mitac 5033 as main notebook for about the same amount of time. More, 98SE had been connected to the net through a pcmcia network card, and being that old (and? not updated) it had far more probabilities to get viruses than Acer one. With factory config, a win98 pc is in average faster than a Vista one, and the gap increases with use, because there are many apps which run startup in Vista and didn't back in 98

Kind of a really old trick that was patched in a service pack, but if you have a copy of an unpatched 98, it will work. Also, it was rumoured to not work on 98SE, but it works for me.

Yep there are very little of these machines around I looked on Ebay Kijiji I also checked out cragslist and on google they have only one picture of it with the complete set the actually monitor mouse keyboard etc. I have a small box of HDD's but some of them don't work to well some of them have very little space I have one more 4GB Quantum HDD left and thats all of those I have other crappy ones the deskpro tower had a bad HDD when I garbage picked? it I had a spare HDD laying around

I'm working on a backup HDD It's the same model as the one thats already in it and I have looked at it and every thing looks ok no burnt wires no loose wires I hope my power supply doesn't burn out because these machines are very rare they only made probably about 300 or more? and thats it these machines are really hard to find especially the power supply that thing is so small that you have to find the proper size so I have to be very carful not to burn it out!

Oh that's weird... Are you planning to try and replace the power cables? Well, I hope that the HD doesn't die... The Western Digital Caviar drives seem to last the longest though. I might try to see if I can revive my hard drives that died.. Try to move the files you like off the hard drive on to a? floppy or a flash drive if you can.

The hard drive had Windows 95 on it. I put it in my HP Compaq and backed up all files and then formatted it. Then I moved the backups back onto the hard drive after receiving the "NTLDR" thing. I still get it, but if I put in an empty floppy disk and open the CD drive and then boot it, it will say "Starting Windows 95" and then tell me that? a bunch of things are missing. Also it will not let me enter the BIOS : /

Everytime I try to boot? my Compaq's hard disk it says: "NTLDR Is Missing Press Any Key To Restart" I press any key and it just says it again. If I take the hard drive out of the computer and put it in another, it still says NTLDR is missing. Doesn't matter what computer it is. And nothing seems to be booting to any CDs : /

BTW flashing BIOS on diskette isn't recommended at all, procedure is usually very quick. Just download? exe BIOS/eeprom file then install it trough operating system and that's it. And I forgot to mention, don't turn electric off - otherwise PC would be totally killed

In my reply below I said the MediaGX is fully intel compliant but upon further reading it was not so my bad on that one. Apparently this is a common problem when installing Win98 and with the further reading up it's understandable as to why. Although it was made during the Pentium era it was mostly 486 era in design. So in actual fact there is nothing wrong with it in? the sense of something being broken, the BIOS on the board is just fine.

Sorry I misheard, I thought you said the jumpers were set to? cable select. Yeah the processor is a MediaGX if I remember it was by Cyrix. However it's fully intel x86 compliant. Did it give you any random errors whilst running the previous OS? The CD being a copy won't affect it in any way or at least shouldn't, I've used copied discs for years rather than my originals.

Alright! Windows 98SE and looking good! When ever I install 98 SE I don't get the fancy wallpaper behind the installation windows or the sounds. It's probably because I'm doing from DOS all the time. Wait? It'll spin up when you touch the little black IC on the drive when you don't have it plugged in? I'd try putting that hard drive in the refrigerator for a few hours and then let it warm up in your room for an hour and then see if it works then. I heard that might bring it back. ?
