.... higher FPS for burst mode is going to be mainly good for sports... if its simply just people moving around then you should not be having to fire a burst mode shot and higher FPS would not be anything great...? even 5 fps will net you what you need. What you should be adjusting is your shutter speed if your just trying to capture people moving at events. ..... you should also be shooting raw.

invest in a good lens rather than a new body. If your shooting in RAW and other correct settings the 7D will not get 8fps. Just remember list of most important to least important Photographer>Lens>Body. You will be wasting your money on the 7D. If you really? must get a new body then get the 60D.

So perhaps someone could help me, I currently have the T2i but pretty soon I'm about to make an investment for another camera. I've been thinking a lot about the 7D and I really like it for it's 8fps, but after seeing more and more reviews I'm starting to get nervous about the purchase... I want a good entry level professional camera and the 7D is within my price range unlike the 5D which costs an? arm, and a leg. Suggestions?... Save, or make the jump for the 7D?

Canon's are always in style and never loose value. I have an AE1, I used in my job in the Army and still use. I have the Rebel T1, the OES D50, A few ggod lens, filters, and I am good to go. Buy the body and good lenses (not kit) You can always use it. I will get another digital in about 3 yrs. ? Am getting llights, other support equipment, studio, etc stuff. Buidl your equipment slowly. Invest in good lenses. They will change..AE1 has bayonet mounts.

I have to agree with the previous commenter: a camera like this begs to be used fully manual. I'll admit on my 5D2, I've used some of the automatic features to save time when I need to shoot a video right away, but I've also shot video where I manually adjusted everything including the white balance. It's worth the effort. I've never tried to use AF while shooting because I know the mic would? pick up the audio. It sounded like I heard static from a dirty external mic connector at one point.

DSLR cameras are not meant to be used in AUTO. Thats the point of buying a DSLR to have the ability use the camera in its full potential. Also from the sound of the focusing the lens must be an EF-S (which are not that good to show 7D's image quality IMO compared to an L? Lens). But even if have a perfect lens its not a good idea to use it in AF while filming because dslr focusing systems are designed for fast focusing for capturing photos not for smooth video focus.

Probably not 2-3 years, its been out for 3 years now so there will be something new soon. But you have to ask yourself if its worth the wait and the high price when launched. What will the new model offer? More pixels (18 should be enough though), more AF-points, dual card slot, better audio support while filming, thats about it. I'll get a barely used (6 months) next week. 300 euros off the retail price.? Im sure i wont regret that even when a new model comes out.

It shoots a maximum of 29:59 (29 minutes, 59 seconds). Once you reach that time, if you're watching the camera close, you'll probably lose a maximum of about 3 seconds. Honestly, not bad at all. Make? sure you have plenty of memory if you're shooting HD! You'll need almost 256gb of memory for 5 hours...

The first thing I notice is that you don't have a focus puller. The second thing I notice is the music (and? that's not a good thing). However, I don't find the image particularly unstable, for hand-held work it looks fine. The 7D seems to do a great job, if only it can be kept in focus.

Consider a few things 1. Do you need 8fps? If you do and can not? live without it, 7D it is. 2. What other lenses do you have, what is your upgrade plan for your kit? If you already have a collection of full frame lenses, it's time to move on to another level! Or if you don't have any lenses, you can get the 5D2 too, because full frame lenses are so much better and so much more versatile imo. 3. If you think the 5d is too slow, and is planning to upgrade to FF soon, get the 60D!

@pikapolonca3 my advice might not be? worth as much, but for regular portrait-fotography i dont think you will need high ISO, and unless youre doing hardcore sportsfotography the ISOcapabilities of the 7d will be good for sports, too... I see why full-frame would be a big plus for you personally. I think it depends on your lenses... if your current lenses are poor/few, then i would get a 7d and invest your saved money in a decent lens/new lenses, if you already have the lenses you need get a 5d:)

i am deciding between the 7D and? Mark II. i need something for concert photography and portraits. i do photojournalism and american football too, but not as much. 7D has amazing 8 fps and more focusing points while the 5D has the full frame and better quality at high ISO settings. Ideally i would buy the new mark III because it has the best of both, but i dont have the money and seeing as the Mark II price will drop... any advice?

Not dissing nikon cuz it's an awesome camera too! but you can't compare these 2 cameras and the canon is more for semi pro to professional use while the nikon is suited more for a beginner to professional use. Plus the canon has a better AF system then the d7000's.

Grats for that reviev. The battery grip is a must have if you have big masive hands. It really improofes the work? with the camera. And with the second battery in the grip the charges last allmost for ever.

You know what I just don't get it. Just as many photographers resisted the change from film to digital... an SLR design like this makes no sense to me whatsoever. Why cover a sensor that can show you your image up with a mirror you have to then look thru a little viewfinder to see around... and move it out of the way mechanically to make the shot. DSLR's in five? years will be dinosaurs... people will laugh if you have one. No live view NO sale. But hey go ahead and lug that crap around
