I think that's a great idea, actually! Have it appraised - you can go to an antiquary, or you can ask someone from the Baker Street Irregulars of the Sherlock Holmes society. The Museum may buy it? off you, either the one in Baker Street or the one in Portsmouth, UK. There is one in New York too, if I'm not too mistaken. Still, after you appraise it, keep me in mind! I've been a Sherlock Holmes fan for so many many years, and I would love to own that. Good luck!

*laugh*? oh, this was a bag of fun though, one has to admit. And remember: we never really saw Holmes in this kind of disguise, and Watson keeps saying he is really fantastic with women when he puts his mind to it. I was more disappointed at 'The Green Gables'. They have Watson get a good beat-up there, and Holmes' reaction is 'oh, you have a bandage, redress that'. Judging by the smuggler's case in canon, I was expecting a more explosive reaction.

They beefed it up quite a bit. Holmes only mentions his engagement in? passing, and that with an air of making a joke. Watson is rightly scandalised, but the event and topic stops there. We see neither the aftermath, during, or any reaction.

The problem is that the Basil Rathbone Holmes movies were often not very faithful to the original source material. If nothing else his Holmes was fundamentally, if subtly, different than the "real" one (which Jeremy Brett comes far closer to getting right). So,? if you like Basil's movies go right ahead (I've always liked him as an actor), but he was never really "Sherlock Holmes", but some alternate detective who just happened to have the same name.

Holmes has much more willpower than me. I couldn't have watched from a ledge as my dearest friend screamed my name into a chasm, believing me dead. Even if I could have managed that, I certainly could not have hidden from them (sometimes in plain sight) for three years, letting them believe that I had been murdered. (This was done at Jeremy Brett's request - he said he hated the idea that kids watched this show and he hated representing drugs as being cool.) ACD's descendants agreed to the change. I just remember watching an episode on PBS when I was a kid and remember seeing a man fall off the roof of a train before the titles and then? a detective investigating the tracks later although I thought the lighting was different and I wasn't sure if it was a S.H. mystery or something else. As for the discussions concerning the plot, I think this may be another example of Arthur Conan Doyle getting fed up with his readers and testing the boundaries of believability. I understand he was a bit resentful that the public ate up his detective stories and ignored his other works...?

A science fiction story? What - at all - does this story of a man's psychological breakdown have anything to do with science fiction? I? rather enjoyed this episode for it's deft handling of personality disassociation, albeit in a rather dramatic way. This is one of the silliest stories in the Holmes canon, and the most implausible and inaccurate, even for Victorian times & early 1900s; you? WILL be yelling "WTF WAS THAT???" at the screen at the ending. Note: the fault here is NOT with the scriptwriters (who've tried their best to make the tale at least dramatic), and Jeremy Brett''s & Edward Hardwicke's performances are ample reasons to watch this vid. This is a good example of an early Science Fiction story, but little else.

The adaptation of this tale, though very good, is inferior to the original. I understand that to make a faithful adaptation would require more than 90% of the story played by another actor who is not Brett. In the original, we have a young Holmes, which makes all the difference. Too bad that it does not follow the book because Watson talking about the mess and the lethargy of Holmes is a very nice touch that? is given to the character, whic is lost in this adaption. One of my favorite stories!
