The best drill to feel this? proper clearing as well as GUARANTEE GREAT BALL STRIKING is the feet together drill; see "feet together drill shawn clement" as well as "feet together and one leg update" Enjoy! Shawn
By: pureballer30. on 17 May 12, 04:52:10
Awesome video! I'm struggling with my ballstriking because I feel that I am losing space on the downswing with the right hip almost in the way of my arms, and? i notice on video my right heel comes off early, adding right knee flex. Would a good way to get the hips to clear better be to feel the right foot rolling towards the target in the downswing? That would force the hips to clear properly correct?
By: clemshaw. on 14 May 12, 03:09:18
It only appears to be open; it has the same relationship? in the hands and it still closed to the arc of the swing; see "draw and fade shawn clement" part 1, 2 and 3 Shawn
By: JohnnyLTSD. on 12 May 12, 13:49:38
Hi? Shawn. When you "brace" against your left side, it appears as the you allow the club face to open up from it's original squared position at your primary address. Is this the case? I think an eagle eye view would be cool to see your set up position.
By: clemshaw. on 03 Mar 12, 12:26:32
What I would do is go to my "Most important videos to watch after my DVD series" playlist from my home page on you tube; you will see some very important videos on the action to target which means, you are releasing the swing towards the area you want to send the ball and not send the release AT THE BALL; which is what you would? be doing now...NEVER let the ball become your target by allowing your focus to get ripped off your target.
By: 74soll. on 03 Mar 12, 12:17:52
Hi Shawn. Love? your vids! Very instructive. I have a constant problem keep my posterior protruded and chest forward through my downswing. As a result I tend to shank/slice my balls and/or hit the dirt first then the ball. Do you any exercises to fix this? Thanks in advance and more power to you!
By: dpooper. on 03 Mar 12, 05:22:07
Thanks Shawn. I've been working hard on? this swing and I am fairly sure this hip action was the cause of me not being able to stay on the inside of feet which was causing my head to move in front of the ball. I'm no expert but time will tell.
By: clemshaw. on 01 Mar 12, 14:07:41
I know what you mean; golf instruction? is only 100 years old right now and compared to kung fu's 5000 years, we have quite the ways to go! KNOW THIS HOWEVER: YOU ARE WIRED TO PERFORM WITHOUT THINKING ALREADY! Here are some must see videos for you: "Ridiculously easy golf; shawn clement" part 1 and 2; "arms and body timing; shawn...", "stop crashing; shawn..."; "Throwing the club; shawn", "Farm hammer; shawn", "Hammer through; shawn", "Fencing for power; shawn"; these will help BIG!

PLEASE HELP!! Hey Shawn, I really love your videos. I have a quick question. Is it ok to feel like in the transition i feel as though my hips start to fire first with my upper body resisting at first and then at the bottom fire through my extending my right arm? I have seen some videos and read some articles and hear so many? contradicting points. I have heard that I should be firing with my hips and have heard that firing my hips will get me in trouble. PLEASE HELP!!
By: watertonrivers. on 27 Feb 12, 05:10:40
I don't agree that the best pros have a ridiculous amount of? natural talent. Most people are born with the talent to be good and even great players. They all have to learn to manage the course but the golf course between the ears, is the toughest part!!
By: danason20501. on 21 Feb 12, 21:17:46
I use Shawn's hip turn it's like a hammer throw leveraged position. Man what a powerful.release it produces. My driver shots are often measured? at 330 yards at max. Copy this move it is money.
By: shh90. on 17 Feb 12, 14:06:16
you seem to know what you're talking? about but you're swing is so ugly lol
By: plattmagic1. on 10 Feb 12, 09:58:38
I appreciate the response. You're a teaching pro and I'm a hack who shoots in the upper 80s. That said,? in golf instruction I generally let the majority win. If 9 out of 10 teachers say do this, I follow. It does seem that "quiet lower body" seems to be a nearly universal piece of swing advice these days. And what can I say- this hacker finds himself hitting more consistently when he keeps his left heel planted on the backswing. That's all I know.
By: clemshaw. on 07 Feb 12, 21:50:06
Here it is! This is where golf instruction went wrong... because of fear; fear of what might happen if there were too many things that could go wrong...OUR ANATOMY AND WIRING IS OVER 2 MILLION YEARS OLD AND WE ARE AMAZING...BUT WE DON'T TRUST, especially when a guy with a video camera with strong opinions shows up. Think Phil or Dustin are better off? I reference them because they bought into "eliminating variables"...:)?
By: plattmagic1. on 04 Feb 12, 23:02:16
I love your videos. But you know that referencing what a few select pros do is not fair. Pros have two things going for them that normal people don't. 1. They have all day to hit balls over and over. 2. They have a ridiculous amount of natural talent. These two things allow them to get away with all sorts of superfluous movements. This isn't an argument for "X factor/torque." This is an argument for eliminating as many variables that? we can- IF we can.
By: guitarteacher1993. on 04 Feb 12, 06:51:30
i don't disagree with? your instruction but citing Bubba Watson may not be the best example of what to do with a swing.
By: clemshaw. on 03 Feb 12, 13:56:15
I am sorry to say that it is you that is being brainwashed and preyed on; look back at Bobby Jones and look at Bubba Watson; Remember a guy named Jack? Video analysis is so dangerous when you don't know what you are looking at; I learned my anatomy at age 17 and have kept up yet you won't find many? teaching pros with any anatomical reference manuals that would clearly show that RESISTING WITH THE LOWER BODY IN THE BACKSWING IS A SURE RECIPE FOR EVENTUAL MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN OF THE BODY
By: jeanmunn. on 20 Jan 12, 13:18:32
To elaborate on my previous post, in most of your videos showing a full backswing your hips are rotated almost as far back as they can go. I would argue with you that this is not a good move at all and certainly not one to encourage. For a really solid unload and great coil restrict the hips and make a full shoulder turn, that's the move all really good players make. That? being said there certainly is a great deal of merit to your instruction but it's so easy to get overloaded with instruction.
By: jeanmunn. on 20 Jan 12, 13:10:15
Shawn, appreciate the time you put in with your instruction, golf instruction has been jumped on via the internet by thousands of so called " teaching pros. " I am unable to recall any sport where so many amateurs are basically? preyed on by individuals selling instruction or worthless high priced gimmicks. And that's exactly what they are, they are not " training aids " they are gimmicks. The whole instruction issue is chock full of contradictions from one instructor to the next as you know.
By: CarolinasPGApro. on 06 Jan 12, 15:42:33
I wanted to see if you'd do a video sometime on a hips drill I came up with....what I do is have the student loop an alignment stick through the front of their belt....in the backswing i get them to move the right end of the stick behind them (clear the right side to make room for the arms), then on the downswing try? to get them to move the left end of the stick behind them. I find it helps give them the feeling for getting the body out of the way without the pelvis going forward to the ball.
By: CarolinasPGApro. on 06 Jan 12, 15:39:53
Hey Shawn! Brad Edwards here. I'm a PGA teaching pro based in Charlotte NC and am a HUGE fan of your work. I stumbled upon your vids some years ago, and it was nice to see a? kindred spirit in that we base teaching in anatomy and physics rather than outdated theory. Your concepts really ramped up my own teaching and this past year i had 68 different students shoot career rounds! Thanks a TON!!! your colleague and fan, Brad E
By: MrDaryboy. on 02 Jan 12, 17:41:14
Your comment is spot on to what I do. I have noticed from vids of my swing that I raise my right foot very soon in the down swing. Did you ever figure out a? drill to help you with this?
By: evergeendata. on 06 Dec 11, 23:32:48
Thanks Shawn - I needed a refresher on? that. Have been working in the "Hogan" drill and was accidentally getting sloppy with the feet. Take care...
