I bought an all original 1971 Super Beetle AutoStick rust free from California from the original owner with all the paperwork. The lead paint is all original and so were all the components. After several thousand dollars invested on several worn out components, the car runs awesome. It maintains it's value after an appraisal? and never gets lost in the parking lot. I highly doubt that any of these new cars on the road will be around on 40 years like the original bug. High tech plastic junk!!!!!!!

Actually Ferdinand Porsche did not share the same views as Hitler. All hitler? was responsible for was helping Porsche get a people's car out the door and also give Porsche a few ideas that he wanted to implement (fuel economy, withstanding heat, cost, for the people of Germany). Other than that, what you generally see on the road today post-WWII is basically due to fact that the British wanted to continue the VW plant. Basically your modern VW would not exist without the UK.

yeah but this car indeed is a safer car. how do I know? I commuted with mine for 8 years and I'm lucky to still be alive. Nice looking car though but you can't pass DOT safety among other things with one. That's why they kept making them until 1996 in brazil (I forgot til when in Mexico) but they stopped importing them in the US in 1979. Too? bad though that vw cars were junk (some even had engines that literally would crack in half [rabbit non-diesel]) up until the 90s since then.

It actually isn't a? loud clutch either lol. There's no synchro in between the gears so you need to double clutch and rev match your shifts for no grinding.

Toyota doesn't have any decent cars that get over 40 MPG either. The 2.5L Camry gets a max of 35 MPG on HWY, and the corolla does worse at 34 MPG, which is pathetic considering its a smaller car with a smaller engine with less HP. Tne ONLY non-hybrid car that toyota has that goes anywhere close to 40 is the yaris, which only gets 38 MPG, and it's only 106 HP. I'd rather take a TDI 0-60 in 8 secs, 140 HP 236 ft-lb torque plus it gets over 40 MPG. Beat that.?

vw needs to get with the times and build a 4 cylinder engine that can get 40mpg highway. there diesel only gets about that much. in a few years regular cars from every other manufacurer will be getting 40+mpg beating? the tdi. why does vw have a 5 cylinder. is it they cant build a nice 4 banger or are they just to cheap to buld a new one. 30 if your lucky on the highway is a joke in a car like this. so the 2.5 5 cyl gets about 22-29 comparison wise a 3.5 v6 camry engine? with 268 hp get 21-30 mpg

That would be interesting (and likely close). The guy at the end says they've purposely made it a hair slower than the GTi to maintain the GTi as the performance car (at least thats how I interpret it). And when I said heavier I was referring to the previous model. To me a beetle shouldn't be "heavy" or "quiet" it should be very light, high quality and dead simple. But maybe that's because I own a true air cooled beetle. I suppose it's not really apples to oranges (even though? it's trying).

Yeah? I've never been in the 2012 but spent a decent amount of time in my girlfriend's 03. There really wasn't anything wrong with the space in the front seat of that car. I don't think there's really any point to the back seat, you can't fit anyone in it anyway, or the trunk where you also can't fit anything, but if you took out the back seat and expanded the trunk that car would be great. And I read that the 2012 is about half an inch wider, so I'm not sure why you said it's so much wider.

Are you kidding?? VW does not use cheap metal and cheap materials like other imports, sorry. Fender sound system, quality interior and a strong body does not come cheap. As far as I'm concerned, under $20,000 for the base is more than reasonable considering? the average price of a new car is about $28,000. You can't compare this car to a Kia or a Hyundai- they're just not in the same league...

I think that VW will never be able to correct the damage that the previous generation beetle caused. That car was just an unreliable piece of crap. I was stupid enough to buy a 1998 VW beetle brand new and I had so many problems with that car. The heating and air conditioning system went out at 30,000 miles. The head gasket cracked at 62,000 miles. VW will have a very difficult task to get people to buy this car again. There is just too many better vehicles around to buy than a VW beetle.?

Turbo version get Bi-Xenon lights and LED running lights. and get a few other upgrades compared to the other versions. Electric steering, Independent front MacPherson struts with stabilizer bar, Cross Differential System (XDS), 6 speed manual and optional DSG trans. You can't get the 9 speaker in the turbo only the 8 speaker audio? system, no Nav available. Only comes in 6 different colors. I hope that helped you..

Great review! By the way, the standard wheels on the Turbo are 18 inch, with 19 inch as an option. Perhaps the "launch" model came with 19's. I just bought a red one ... it has 18's ... and I love it! This is a well constructed car,? with even better gas millage. So far I am averaging >28 city and 34 highway (based on the computer; with a light foot) and this is on a "green" motor with just 400 miles! Can't wait to see what it can do with a properly broken-in motor.

And about 30 to 40 HP. Rear-engine (with rear-wheel drive) isn't practical in a modern car with multiple times the amount of power an original Beetle had, not unless it's intentional to? force extremely sporty and tricky handling (see 911). And unless I'm mistaken, this isn't a sports car. They still could've gone with front-engine + rear-wheel drive though, so that's a bit of a disappointment. The car looks sweet btw, much better than the New Beetle and especially less girly.

My first car was a '67 Beetle, and over the decades, we have had other VWs. Each one suffered quality issues and each one leaked oil. I'd love to come full circle and get another Beetle, but my current Korean car is 9? years old and has been as solid as a 1990's Honda, and it's hard to leave something that works for such a chancy vehicle, even though it looks fantastic.

I saw one of these cars on the lot the other day and I could not believe that they wanted 30k for this car. VW needs to remember that regardless of all the extras and the turbo engine this will always be an economy car. This car is worth about 20k fully loaded . At the prices? they are asking if you add a few more dollars you can get a BMW or Mercedes.

Looks better but still falls short and costs Way too much and gets crappy mpg. FAIL. Design: thumbs up looks way better inside and out. Performance: this is suppose to be? a eco not a sport min requirement is 40mpg. Thumbs up on the under 8 sec 0-60mph but come on. Price: ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND VW! No one is going to buy this at $25k - $30k. Try half that price then ppl will move to it. There are so many better choices for the money.

I like this guy's reviews of the driving experience of cars, ALTHOUGH, the biggest thing he fails to mention this review is that the Beetle Turbo comes with an independent rear-suspension. The 2.5 model only comes with a beam-axle rear-suspension. Plus, he says the front suspension is? different between the 2.5 and turbo and it's essentially the same front struts between the two models.
