Shortwave Radio Comparing Test 19.1.2012.

In this video I test 5 different shortwave receivers: Tecsun PL-660, Tecsun PL-310, Eton G3 Globe Traveller, Sony 7600GR and Sangean ATS-909X. Then again Tecsun PL-660 with sync detection LSB/USB on and trying narrow/wide filters. Radio station you hear on this test is Voice Of America from St.Tome & Pricipe, Pinheira.

How resistent to overload is your PL-310 on SW? I have a PL-398MP and any wire antena longer than 2-3 meters overloads the radio? quite heavily.

I used wire antenna for this test. In? my opinion Tecsun PL-660 (no 606) is better than Sangean on SW-bands. For AM and FM bands Sangean is better in my opinion. Sangean's external antenna connector also works on both SW and AM-bands but Tecsun's not.

What kind of antenna did you use for this test? And one more question. I am thinking about getting a new radio and? can't decide between the Tecsun PL-606 and the Sangean 909X. Eventually maybe I'll buy both :) but I'm interested to hear your opinion: which one do you like most for AM/SW? Thanks!

Very interesting observation ! I assume some kind of G3 has something wrong with it EXT antenna connector. If you stop plugging an antenna wire plug into EXT antenna socket on its half-way, the reception with EXT antenna with G3 might be improved. I did it when I use G3. Thank? you for uploading !

Interesting video. I have/had a few portable chinese receivers which are amazingly good for the price. But somehow I always go back to the Sony 7600GR, despite? its muffled sound which I don't like that much. To me it still represents the best compromise between features, portability, performance and price.

Thanks! Ok I will try "news" setting on Sangean! I agree with you that PL-660 is the clear winner! Eton Satellit 750 would have been on the second or third place but I didn't took it? to this test because it has different type of antenna connector and I should have change cable and adaptor. But if you have strong signal Satellit is clear winner in audio quality.

Nice video and interesting comparison! I'm a bit surprised? that the G3 delivers the worst signal on your longwire antenna. By the way, audio distortion on the ATS-909X can be reduced by setting the tone switch to "News". In my opinion, the clear winner of the test is the PL-660 as it sounds most pleasant.

Well, just ask yourself how often have you actually fought an OPGL? I've played APB for some 1500 hours? (although at least half are from RTW times) and I've only ever met one person who was good with the OPGL in normal scenarios. Sure, a lot of high rating people take it out to clear roofs etc at times, but the people who can use it well enough as their "main weapon" in just about any scenario are VERY VERY few.

While an old joke, how many people do you honestly see on a regular basis being good, let alone "OP" with the GL? If it was truely OP, a lot of people would use it, just like with every truely OP weapon. Direct firing weapons are way easier? to use succesfully than the OPGL, which is why you dont really see many. This is also why I like to use it, I like to try mastering something others wont even try :D

Well, I think I can understand why. A good team with explosive weaponry is well-nigh unapproachable by a team without them. (Look what happened when they tried to rush you that first time at 5:53.) I suppose their only alternatives were snipe, desperation-rush? with CQC weapons or try to counter with explosives. They probably just weren't practiced enough to be effective with the last option.

They all copy me! It's a? funny trend actually. I've been using the OPGL almost exclusively since I unlocked it and after a few nasty kaboom-deaths, the opposition switches into explosive weapons. Rarely see them have any success though, at least if they go OPGL.
