There are better examples of "good" golfers? that use the interlock. Tiger is just an average pro golfer now. That's all I meant by it. It can. One of many factors that can cause a slice is poor posture. You might be standing too close to the ball which makes it hard for your chest to rotate and the club have plenty of room to swing out to the ball. This would cause you to cut across the ball (or swing out? to in as it is called) and slice. But people like Jim Furyk are perfectly comfortable standing close to the ball, but they make compensations later in the swing to "catch up" Hence his weird looking swing.

Here's a thought... everyones wrong! There are numerous things you can do to slice/fade a golf ball. For instance, even if your club face is closed and you have good position at the top of your swing, if you initiate the down swing? with your upper body you can cut across the ball creating a slice. The video points out one way to fix slice, it doesnt claim to fix everything.

Sorry, you are wrong. The top of your backswing has nothing whatsoever to do with impact. (Unless, however you play "dead-handed"). You can have a severely closed clubface at the top of the backswing, yet still hit shanks & slices. People are looking in the wrong places for good golf. Yourself included.? ;)

If that is the case, then the? wrist cock of the hitter is through left wrist bowing (flexion), rather than radial deviation plus pronation? I can see how this works, keeps the right palm normal to the downswing plane, but I don't think most could get more that 70-80 degrees of lag.

This guy? is correct. The golf swing is not called a "swing" for nothing. It should never be thought of as HITTING. The relatively slow movement of an arm activates a bull whip and by the time that energy reaches the tip the sound barrier has broken - SNAP! By the time your hands reach the bottom, the club-heads is releasing and moving much faster than your hands, think about it. THIS WHY THE PROS OFTEN LOOK SO EFFORTLESS. This demonstration is the key to club-head speed. Practice = Accuracy.

Thanks Jeff! ? I shot my best round so far at my course (78) but it could of easily been 73 or 74. I had a few 3 putts and some bad 2 putts. This routine looks like it offers confidence for any putt on any green, and I will definately give it a go! Cheers!

The key to making putts is actually consistency in your length.? I try to train myself to always hit it 1-3 feet past the hole. Even If I don't make it, to go past the whole is the most important thing, because if you have the line it has a possibility too drop.

Also think about if you are an aggressive putter or non-aggressive...what line you choose depends on it. If you are non-aggressive and happy lagging, then you must add MORE? to the break to allow for the grain/slope to affect the ball. If you are aggressive and play less break, act accordingly and be ready for those 3-4 ft comebackers!

Chipping green is FREE, so is the putting green. If you are broke, just sneak onto the back nine. Once you? start knowing how to hit the ball in order for it to do a certain path, man you will get hooked. You can play ping pong very good after 50 hours. Golf is so expensive and when you hit the ball off the T and is the walk to hit the ball again exciting? I could have returned the ping pong ball 200 times. I mean you hit the ball and have to walk 500 feet. Then you hit it with you 7 iron hope to make the green. The game takes up too much real estate. Yes, of course! What you need to understand is that you are already in the backswing at address and therefore already in your turn which means closed shoulders; no worries! Your brain is thinking statically right now; what happens when you go into the backswing? Your shoulders close because they turn right? And when you swing through to the target? They open! i believe more power can be achieved by focusing on heavy right loading during backswing. but that doesn't make it right. (example: tiger in earlier years and I believe it is also studied in 'search for perfect golf swing') when i? make a pronounced lateral move to my right i gain power--bottomline! problem is I lose my center and consistency (example your washing machine analogy!) interesting convo though which i will bring to the forum!

I find it easier to toss my hands back from a slightly less tilted position, causing my left heel to lift (plant it at the top before my downswing). If I keep a spine tilt through the down swing, but try to brace against my left leg? to keep weight forward, am I achieving the right motion w/o setting an exaggerated tilt at address?

Shawn, I have been watching a lot of your wonderful clips. They have helped me immensely. The watchdog segments have been? great, after going through half a dozen Golf Digest my friend had at his cottage, I felt as if the instructional information contradicted itself so much. I've been working on trying to get into this braced position, but I find when I do get into what I believe is the position, the takeaway (like perpetual motion drill) is very difficult for me to perform naturally. Advice?

Shawn, I seem to struggle with keeping? the 'taut' sensation in my right shoulder socket at the top during the transition. swing is either left arm only coming down or right side, shoulder/arm trying to get the feeling back and getting over active or out of sequence. Yes; you want to feel that the width is created by centrifugal force resulting from the body getting out of the way of the Arm club unit's swing; we have a few threads on this in my forum and you should check it out! Shawn - great and critical clip here. In the pursuit of width, I have become fixated on a super straight left arm going back -? similar to Els, who is nearly hyper-extended. All I seem to doing is adding tension to the arm unit, which results in "holding on" to the whole damn thing into impact and through - blocking shots right and never giving myself a chance to relax, stretch out, and release. Is it acceptable for me to abandon the notion of a dead straight left arm going back? Many thanks!

I watched this video for about the 100th time today (like all your videos) and just thought is this why when you watch on TV the pros look like they are lining up to the ball and the ball is out to the very front of the? club head (their arms are relaxed and not taut) then before they swing they taut their arms and the ball ends up being in the middle of the club. I think I have been lining up with the ball in the middle with "un-taut" arms and pulling the ball left...thoughts???

Hi Shawn, Feel like ive just got the last piece of the jigsaw. I've been trying all the other stuff on your vidoes but still i've been hacking up the turf or topping the ball. Realllly struggled to maintain constant good contact with the ball. Keeping the arms taut to the side of the chest and swinging forward before the backswing with a straight arm solved? all the problems. Went from my average round of 100- 106 to 89 straight off!! Hi Shawn, This taut arms technique (IMO) is one of the most important things in the swing. The taut arms will give you the width you need and help maintain all the other concepts you talk about. For most? golfers if they are like myself tend to get lazy in mid swing and lose the taut, You have to maintain that taut sensation all the way thru. This was so the key for me. One other thing was the fact that I was a little to tall at address and adjusted that as well. I am CRUSHING my irons now

The last part of moving to this swing was this part. It was hard for me as my right elbow was flying a little. The results occurred fairly quickly at the driving range. The hard part was taking it to the? course. It is hard to think about your backswing and hit through the ball. Also, this has also made my 1/2 3/4 shots a lot more consistent. FOR ME, thinking about the feel about how much the elbow is bent on the backswing is a much better thought than thinking where my hands need to be.

I was turned on to Shawn's swing theories hoping to relieve some joint issues that I was having. Going into this new more nautral swing I thought I was going to get a higher shot dispersion than with the "Leadbetter" more mechanical swing methods. I was WRONG. Over the past two months I have had the highest birdie to round ration in my life. When I get in a groove I am throwing darts from GW to 7 iron. What do you recommend for this; when I lift the club off the ground for? my normal backswing, the face of the club will close slightly (maybe 5-10 degrees). Is this a problem?? Hi Shawn, I struggled with the concept of taut because in order to maintain the tautness I used muscular strength, for me I swing best when my arms feel soft and my wrists are loose. For me an? important distinction is not to employ muscular strength when swinging and as you say let gravity do the work.
