First of all, there is 30 seconds warning time starting when the crossing is activated until the train enters the edge of the road. Second, all crossings that have flashing lights will have a pair aimed at side roads? or other atypical installations. Third, if the trucker would have continued and crashed through the other gate, that would have been better because all gates have shear bolts that allow the gate and casting to pivot on the king pin.

there are 2 reasons why he was "laying on the horn". First, he was approaching a crossing for which there was? a whistling requirement. Second, when the horns are mounted above the cab on the loco, they will pack with snow as the train strikes drifts. The best way to prevent this is to sound the horn as the snow would be entering, to prevent it. Sometimes in severe Canadian winters in years past, we would have the horn pack with snow anyway, and it was rather useless when it was barely audible.

I've crossed there many times... and this isn't the first accident at that crossing. That is North College Street, in Stuttgart, Arkansas. Stuttgart has 10 or 11 railroad crossings just like this and has had many deaths over the years. It just happens that the Riceland Foods security cam caught this accident.?

Eds back and louder then ever
This is to compaire two Leslie horns. The first is a stock Leslie RS-3L very common on Conrail.
The second, the same horn (retuned) to sound a more pleasent cord.
Retuning is done by modifying the trumpets, or bells as they are more correctally called, by cutting a section out of the base to get the key desired.
