Try specialized tools to improve signal quality without all this stuff :). It brings full characteristics about surrounding networks and signal, so you adjust your router, or network card parameters. In my case the most significant thing was actually used channel, Windows not provides this info. I? was used Maxidix Wifi Suite.

The basic idea is interesting. Knowing the basics, it's not all that difficult to start "from scratch" and make your own reflector. It can be a segment of a circle as well as a parabola. The circle isn't quite as "accurate" but it's a lot easier to draw. ? The antenna post is positioned half the radiius from the center of the reflector. The total solution is to get a USB extender and put the antenna and reflector on your roof. If you have an antenna rotator, mount it on that.

I want to do this, amplify my wifi antena receiver, but with a dish antenna... it shouldn't be that hard.... I already got the USB Wi-fi adapter, all I need is : The dish A bigger antenna that fits the Dish focus point a long cable (25, 50 or even 100 ft) coaxial antenna cable to connect the adapter to the dish antenna. WRT54GL is only worth it because it's the only currently manufactured router under the Linksys brand that fully supports DD-WRT. Really old versions of WRT54G also have the same hardware but as cost cutting measures the memory has been cut down and it makes the router as stable as surfing? the web on a Wii (read unstable). Lack of memory makes the cheaper alternatives unsuitable for torrenting or any type of p2p filesharing. GL is also obviously much more stable than the newer G models.

I don't get why ALL flashable devices are not made, so that it for example always have a hardcoded firmvare version that it can always revert to, if you make a flashing mistake. Or a functionality that lets? you flash it, even with a messed up firmware, like some motherboards actually do. That way you wouldn't have to be so scared and careful with flashing firmware! :)

Never save your password. never use a simple text like elvis bla bla if u use a wireless router like G wrt flash? it =) use wireless with a non reverse encryption SANS told as that simbols, letters and numers are simple. It is all about reducing the radius of the signal. This can be done by reducing the signal strength, directing into an absorbing medium (moist ground), etc. Sure you see a lot of wireless networks when wardriving, we all do. You won't see the ones that are properly designed until you are right on them. Of course, you should always configure security on you AP, but the best method? is to use a layered approach.

Technically, hubs don't actually send traffic out all ports. A hub must never emit a frame out the same port it was received on. Hubs? are big and clunky. One can make a custom sniffing cable that has 4 connectors (two connectors at each end of the cable), where the sniffing ends have nothing connected to the TX pairs, so the sniffer cannot transmit, and the switch won't see you. Modern switches have the ability for the admin to configure mirror, SPAN, or MONITOR ports.

Is gparted limited to the 7 partitions (4 primary and 3 extended) of the old fdisk? Or can it do 32 as in Ranish Partition Magic? When a partition tool offers to "move the partition" is? it transferring data or simply reproducing the same parameters (partition table etc.) in a different spot on the disk? If it moves everything, what's the difference between that and cloning? Aren't you glad you don't have to calculate the number of bytes and specify the cylinder head and sector number:)

I agree. You should have some sort of firewall, I use the Linksys WRT54G. Until you set up port forwarding, that type of firewall will fully protect you. I? only turn on forwarding when I need it. Using the defaults on the box, any session initiated from the outside is blocked but you can still connect from your network outwards. If you don't have a firewall device, you might want to look into smoothwall.

Great video, if I may suggest, I would suggest dual booting to make the transition easier. For anyone who isn't aware,? it means that you choose between Ubuntu (or whichever distribution) and microsoft at the start up right after BIOS. That way if you need to use microsoft for any reason (games or whatever) then you just restart into microsoft. Eventually you'll see that you hardly ever (if at all) go into it.

Way to go Brian! I tried Ubuntu - it's cool, but I ended up going with PCLinuxOS - way easier transition for Windows people. Easiest way to make the change = 2 Hard Drives. Leave the cover off the 'puter & switch the cable back & forth? as needed. I did that & eventually I stopped using the XP hard drive completely!

i dont know if this is an old video, or microsoft has since changed its policy. i've been able to? reinstall vista more than 5 times already. i constanstly change hardware and when its needed i reinstall windows. i go online and if it doesnt activate, all i do is call then number on the screen, add all the codes and then they give me a code to enter on my system, and thats all. windows is then activated. you just have to tell microsoft that its only installed in one computer.

But you? can also install IE on Linux; first install Wine, then search on Google for IEs4Linux (yes, the s belongs there). Yeh ubuntu is very windows friendly. My external hardrives (NTFS? file system) were unreadable by Mandriva linux, with ubuntu - they all read straight away, also mp3, and mpeg2 worked immediately with no issues. The next test was to use WINE to run windows apps, took about 5 minutes worked perfect! GO Ubuntu!!!

I found out actually that you can use WindowsVista on multiple computers by hooking the hardDrives up to the original BIOS that activated it in the first place, so, in english hook the hardDrive up to the orginal computer that activated Windows to activate and than put the hardDrive back in? the newter computer.

I still use Windows XP. Windows Vista still has problems, also requires certain hardware, just like XP, yes the silly "NO MULTIPLE MACHINE", and more? system hungry than EVER! The problem is theres going to have to be a bigger push towards OpenSource, because so, many things are still ONLY compatible with InternetExplorer, like Online Anti-Viruses. However, I'll admit Ubuntu is a great attempt against Microsoft.

I have used the same Vista key for close to a year now on one of my demo machines with 0 probs. Every 4-6 weeks the machine is gutted and rebuilt too. Linux is good for the hobbiest that likes? to dick with drivers, but not ideal for the plug and play grandpa that wants to DL pics off his new camera and print them on his 8 year old printer, or for cutting edge gamers that want to play the newest titles TODAY not a month from now waiting for compatibility for the game or their SLI set ups.

Just 'yum update' when logged in as root from the console, a terminal window, or an ssh session. You could use su or sudo, but I wanted to hold off the explanation of those things to a later episode. Sorry about the scroll, I need to order an LCD. It killed the file size so until I get the LCD I will? be using stills. :)

From any command prompt, including from a SSH terminal session, you just type 'yum update'.? I logged in as root for the sake of clarity, but you could use sudo. Sorry about the scroll, it kills me. I am going to order an LCD to fix this in the future. The scroll actually pushed the file size way up, so from now on I use stills. :)

u need to partition ur data. u can use an external hard drive, or u can partition ur hard drive and put ur files on it and put fedora on the other, then u? can move the data partition back to the fedora partition and then get rid of unallocated data and combine it with ur fedora partition, but i reccomend not doing that unless u are exetremely good with computers

Great video we need more of these kinds of? videos to show people that you dont have to use windows. I got all the .iso files needed for Fedora, but I'm going to have to dual boot mine with windows, because my printer/scanner/fax will point blank not work in Linux at all. :(
