My first 5 star song. This means cream of the cream-? absolute best. Way back when I was 15 in 2001 this was the first song to really '"shake my reality" and helped define what it means when song goes above and beyond. I've heard many, many better songs since then so it doesn't have that same punch, but it's still one of the best songs. The best song by REM.

This song was also a B-side on the European singles of Losing My Religion 1991... I got a copy of it when I was? 12. I wasn't into music yet, but both songs made such a big impression. To me, Fretless is the best of the two. Chilling, personal, angry, ambiguous lyrics... A reminder that once upon a time, Michael Stipe was the best lyricist alive... But it didn't belong on Out of Time. Although it would arguably have been the best track (in competition with Feedback, Losing, Half a World)...

Great pics of Andy Kaufman. I agree it makes you feel sad as he is gone. He was such a unique talent...I'll always remember seeing him do the Elvis routine on Saturday Night Live! He did some really crazy stuff too...like saying no woman could beat him in wrestling and then going on different shows to wrestle women! I too think this is one of the best songs ever written, and you're correct at the most points! But, you don't have to search the song, it often pops up at the side list if you're watching a video that is similar to this song. And if someone doesn't like the song, so what? Would be kinda boring if everybody liked the same songs, styles and genres. The only thing which is really improtant (in my opinion), is? that you can discuss about different genres without insulting each other.

You must listen to the albums: Green and Out of Time. They are excellent as well. Good for you for discovering REM, their music will change your life. There is a depth and? complexity to their music that will cause you to lose yourself in it while listening. Enjoy! Coldplay is excellent as well. They make awesome music. If you have not already, check out U2. Their older stuff is better. The song "Bad" off the Unforgettable Fire album is their best in my opinion.

Thank you. It's simply? how it makes me feel. The horn section, paired with the guitar plucking is phenomenal. These guys are iconic. REM is better than: Nirvana, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, etc.

I think anyone who considers themselves a lover of all music must rate REM among? the elite. A truly unique style and sound that is breathtaking and inspiring every time I listen. Their music sends your mind on a winged journey, soaring over God's beautiful creation. Stipe's passion is undeniable. There will never be another REM; as special as the likes of the Beatles.

Yeah, Automatic for the People is pretty much the greatest thing ever. Although Around the Sun, Reveal,? Out of Time, and Collapse Into Now deserve mention, they still hold no candles compared to this beast of an album.
