It's a little hard to define. As I understand it, a "cool remove" is a dispassionate step away from the intensity of sensation and emotion. It is both a protective and isolating distance. That's what makes the image of the window work so well in the video; a "cool remove" is like watching the world through thin glass, having sight and sound just a little muffled. Does anyone have another view? This is such a beautiful, haunting, solemn song. I? have to admit I cry every time I hear it.

This is especially meaningful to me because the very first time I ever saw Shawn Colvin was the old TNN Network...when they played real music, at an outdoor concert? broadcast live, Mary Chapin Carpenter was singing Lucinda Williams song "Passionate Kisses", and there was a skinny short haired girl singing backup...and the voice was beyond belief...yep, it was Shawn Colvin...and I was smitten right from the first time I saw her. Later she was on Austin City, did "Steady On".INCREDIBLE girl:-)

Excellent! I bought her "Cover Girl" CD some years? ago after hearing this song on one radio station that played (they changed formats!) little-known-but-outstanding stuff like that one. There are other great cuts on "Cover Girl." Love the guitar work in that song, too. Thanks for sharing the vid.

Wonderful music by a superb guitarist and composer. Interestingly, Mr De Grassi claims the theme was inspired in part by the Police song "Don't Stand So Close to Me", which is clear, and may be why it strikes a sympathetic chord from the outset.? Bet Sting wishes he'd written this :-)

Mr. De Grassi really has his shit figured out. His ability to capture that cascading, waterfall-like atmopshere simply on an acoustic guitar is outstanding. Nice video, the shots go very well with the music! That "like a machine" part is pretty? tough to play. I've had my share of finger-cuts from that sequence, wacky fingering.

"Open" is their best album. And "I'm so open" is one of the best songs in there. Not as great as "Bread and wine" (that I just can't? understand why it was not a single), but it's still a good song.

Margo is a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice. I love this band. First saw them at the? Pantages in 1993 and will see them on July 23, 2007, in Fort Collins. I am glad they are able to make enough money to play music. Michael Timmins is a true poet.

This is indeed a wonderful song @dbratton100 :)! She should bring this back every now and again. What interpretation do you get from this song? I think this may be about her departure to Vancouver and the bittersweet goodbyes to her loved ones and their emotions, including her now-deceased (adoptive) mother,? who initially was heartbroken to see Sarah go when she turned 19.

In a few interviews, Sarah has said that some of the lyrics in her earlier songs (such as Path of Thorns, let alone Vox) were sophomoric. I disagree with that. She claims she disconnects from those? songs, although she has been known to play the same songs from Surfacing and FTE again and again.
