Your last comment made your point of view much more clear. I guess this version is more of a display than an interactive pick-a-card. Your suggestion on having them select and sign would be a cool challenge. You should do a version like that. I bet it would be awesome.? I just put this version together because I liked your move and wanted to get something filmed. Thanks for the feedback. I hope you can see why I was confused by your posts.

(cont) having two of the cards selected and SIGNED would make a HUGE difference in the strength of the effect.? Mainly because to an audience what card they choose and how they sign it is out of your control. In your video you use specific cards and lose them in a specific way. The only magical part is the change. If you really could do magic why do you need those specific cards? Thats why in your video the losing of the cards is unnecessary. The change is great though.

Would it be more stunning if they? just saw the ace placed in the deck? No. You are thinking like a magician. Think like your audience. The simple fact that you waved your hand over something and it changed is impossible. Wether it changed into a two, a jack or an ace makes no difference. The effect in your video is all under your control. The moves were specific and appear pre arranged to an audience. The more factors you add to an effect that show you in less control the better.

(cont.) I get your point, but the way you bring it is pretty bad. I guess the discussion? is over and Jonny will use the information however he wants. You probably don't like it this way because it's not the way you meant it to be, but let's be honest.. it's rare to see people doing such consistent jobs. You can see he really thought of what he did. About simplicity, I can easily make your 'WFT' easier so why exactly did you decide to do it more difficult than it has to be?

He? just said he doesn't find himself in the situation. Do you think Ricky Jay is a bad magician because he performs for smarter audiences? Jonny performs at a bar, pretty similar to you, yet he does it as one-of-them (the visitors) instead of as 'the magician of the house'. From my experience I can tell that he can really get into more talking rather than doing flashy tricks. Then again, this trick is under a minute. People with short attention spans would still be able to follow this.

Who said anything about refusing to perform? I said I wouldn't WANT to entertain them, meaning I'm not going to write a trick with them in mind. I was trying to illustrate that if I am performing, it's in a relaxed atmosphere where I can take as much time as I please. I have a very firm lock down on my goals...staying on topic. If you waved your hand over a 5 of clubs and it changed into an? ace, wouldn't it be more stunning if you just saw that ace placed in the deck? (cont)

Jonny, Refusing to perform for people because you think they are morons isn't going to get you very far. Your goal should be to perform equally for young, old, educated, uneducated, male, female, drunk, sober. It shouldn't matter. Magic is about? the audience not you. Someone who could really do magic would be able to perform for anyone.

.....buuuuuuuuuut nothing can be said to make me believe that it is unnecessary to lose cards before they are found. Shuffling, starting with the chosen card(s) on the top of the deck, is a pet-peeve of mine. Showing? a card(s) plainly lost in the deck is the ultimate "convincer" IMHO. The only mixing of the cards in this clip is justified by cutting to the Kings which (to a spectator) is "amazing" in itself. Hooray for magic discussions!

You're trying to write "radio hits". I get it. The environment I perform in, is very intimate. I have all the time in the world to tell a story with cards. Let's just say I don't agree with those "the best way"-kind of statements. It's those kind of statements that make me reply and clear up that there is no such thing as 'the best way' or 'one way to do it', that's all. To each magician their own. You know magic isn't in the trick, it's in what you? do with it.

In your 'WFT' that is indeed the only magic, but Jonnyrotic here added something to that. It isn't bad or anything, he made it amazingly consistent, and it isn't attention losing, that's all I wanted to say. I can see how the way you do it suits you better, but I can understand if people would like to do it like this or would have the spectators take two cards and use e.g. the jokers to? turn into them (other than two selections turning into a 2 of a kind, that's way less exciting).

I don't think you understand me. I am making suggestions on how to improve the actual performance when performing this for a live audience. The only magic? involved here are the two cards turning into two other cards. So you want to get to that as soon as possible with out any "down time". Showing the two cards then losing them in the deck is "down time" nothing exciting is happening so you could easily lose their attention. (cont.)

(cont.) I guess you can see this more as an 'ACR'. By default, it makes no sense to lose the card into the middle and to make it reappear onto the? top time after time. Every kind of sense you can put into the patter of an 'ACR', could be put into the patter of this performance of 'WFT' as well. (And you can add poker-related patters too now.) I definitely can see it work out without any problems. I'd say you may want to have the spectators select the cards to be found though.

I disagree on some things. If you keep the jokers aside like you do and you tell the spectators that you are going to look for the.. let's say.. two jacks (your own choice, you don't have the spectators choose them), the first thing the spectators will think is that the cards laying face-down onto the table are the jacks already. This renders the shuffle invalid, as spectators won't remember it when? you show these cards are the two jokers and you instantly turn them into the two jacks.

Just letting him know that performance wise it is unnecessary. If you already have the twos it makes no sense to lose them only to find them again. Its better to simply have the deck shuffled this way all cards are lost. Then introduce the kings. Better yet use two indifferent cards chosen by the spectator and say they will help you find 2 specific cards like the jokers. this now becomes a more impromptu? looking effect and appears more magical.

Simply shuffling the deck would do that. Anytime you can? remove something and still create the same effect the effect will be better. Simplicity is the key.
