Suitability in the Golf Swing - Teaching to Adapt to the Student Posted by: jkpassage
Video duration: 306 seconds Suitability is the key word. A good golf teacher needs to understand what is best for the student, not what the teacher's preferences are. If students are not improving, it's not always because the student isn't practicing enough. Perhaps, a different way of teaching is in order. Ooh, I just stepped on some toes!! Observations and Specificity 03-11-12 Posted by: jkpassage
Video duration: 317 seconds There were actually 3 observations I wanted to make: (1) using my core muscles to rotate back and through (rather than just shoulders and arms), (2) opening up the hips to allow the arms a clear pocket to swing through, and (3) - the point I failed to talk about - consciously making an in-to-out-to-in swing path to produce a draw. All this along with a stronger grip than I normally use. Related: observations, and, specificity, 03, 11, 12 Display Video Comments | Hide Video Comments | Add Comment |

My swing from "way back when" 10-04-09 Posted by: jkpassage

Baseball & Golf - Take 2 2-27-12 Posted by: jkpassage
Video duration: 158 seconds Very dismal day at the par 3 course on Sunday (02-26-12). Couldn't hit a 7 iron 90-95 yards. So, where do I go from here? How can I correlate the baseball swing (where only swing path is important) to a golf swing (where swing path AND face control are paramount)? Strong Grip? Please convince me! Posted by: jkpassage
Video duration: 190 seconds OK, so I need a stronger left hand grip on the club? For me, that perpetuates a bent left wrist throughout the swing. C'mon, guys, please convince me why I need a stronger left hand and how I go from an extremely bent left wrist at address to a flat (or bowed) left wrist at impact. What is the secret that I don't know? Mutual funds need time to mature, much? like swing thoughts.
By: dschultz6072. on 16 May 12, 16:01:52
you have to let your arms, SPECIFICALLY the left arm slow down and give the clubhead time to catch up and start passing your hands through impact. take some time, without a club in your hands, and think about how you would swing the clubhead, rather than drag it through impact. ? i do think there is some speed you're missing out on because of stuff you've been told to "hold on" to. the move you're doing with your arms, especially. transmit that energy into the clubhead.
By: dschultz6072. on 16 May 12, 15:57:42
weight shift is just a joke. all that stuff will happen if the intent to swing the clubhead is correct. i never think about pivot and my pivot works just fine. the idea of getting on your left side pretty much just puts your whole body further? in front of the ball and makes that club get even more open.
By: dschultz6072. on 16 May 12, 15:52:05
using the body to square the face is just a look. your arms and hands have to slow down in order to get? the clubface square. if your left arm keeps making that move at 2:11, toward your target, the hands will never get enough time to square the face. that's the dragging the open clubhead through impact move. that whole move "then rotating" at 2:14, that rotating should be taking place much earlier. give that clubface a chance to turn over.

I used the word "suitability" quite appropriately because that is the word of caution for investment professionals when recommending investments for their clients. No one mutual funds or investment strategy fits? all investors. Risk tolerance and stage in life all matter. Should be the same with how the golf swing is taught. How my body moves is not how your body moves. Efficient biomechanics must be based on the golfer's capabilities, not what works for the teacher.
By: Tourswing. on 16 May 12, 12:03:02
Heres the first critique Jeff! Each golf teacher will strongly defend their method-its the only thing they've got in their job, and it's attached to their ego too. Some are based on trends/fads (currently its probably S&T), others on the swings of pro golfers that happen to be winning, others still on what? works for the pro him/herself! Personally I thinks there's only one method which is based on how the individual pupils body moves best-and that's based on efficient biomechanics.
