The swing positions you should always strive for are ones that never compromise anything. You would never want to work on a position that works for high pitches and not low, or helps you hit line drives but not to the opposite field, etc. Positions that are truly good are good because they increase your? odds of hitting all types of pitches hard.

As you do more? and more work off of a tee, you'll see that your strike zone is actually not that big. It's important that you work all locations off of the tee so you can get to know the limits of your zone. But no, there is no reason to change mechanics for different location pitches. Can you imagine how hard that would be? You get a 4th of a second to make a decision to swing. If you also had to decide the exact location and what type of swing to make it'd be impossible.

you can't blanket the way a guy hits and say its good or bad. We have to move beyond that and look at their individual positions. The swing is just a second long, but there are many positions within the swing, and each one can be analyzed and worked on. I don't like the way pena keeps too much weight on his back leg, but his arm positions are great - You rarely see this. ? And not coincidentally, you rarely see a guy with his power and low average. Rare positions = rare results.

what about fastballs high in the strike? zone. would i be able to get on top of them and line them? i ordered your product and have high hopes, also is this like for power hitters or does it also influence line drives and the ability to go opposite field.

so this also helps you get on plane with? the pitch

Has anyone seen? a clip of Isao Harimoto? He also tucks his back elbow, lays off the bat and swings with no wrist cock.

I don't believe in saying the way a guy swings is good or bad. There are parts of his swing, in fact, parts of his positions, that are good and bad. Bad means the position has a lot of room for improvement. Good means it is your strength but can still be? improved. I like parts of Carlos' swing. From his waist down, he greatly works against himself. He could connect a lot more often w a better lower body movement. His arm positioning, however, through the impact area is very positive.

Question.. I saw you used carlos? penas swing as one of your examples. To me, it just looks like he drops everything and there really is no weight transfer to the front side. Would you recommend the way Carlos Pena hits?

inside pitches are supposed to be hit out in front. Find out exactly where you need to hit the inside pitch by setting up to a tee and posing in your Impact position. This will show you the exact location of all pitches, and your overall strike zone. Very? important to know your 3D strike zone.

ok thanks i have a prblem when i let the ball get deep like that on an inside pitch... instead of extending through the ball my hand go straight up and kind of topspin it right into the floor. I then started earlier to get extension but i was not catching the ball deep in the zone like you say on the inside pitch and caught it a little more out in front so i could extend and it worked...i would like to catch it deeper and extend (have my cake and eat it to) do you have any drills? or tips?

why would you want to hit the high fastball. Hit strikes. It will still allow you to hit the ball up in the zone, no problem. The greatest hitters have slotted their? hands because it gives hitters a tremendous advantage.

i have a question about the? slot position...doesnt dropping the hands lead to trouble with the high fastball?

yes. that's correct. and that is the point. learning to hit the ball deeper in the? zone. If your swing is inneffective, you won't be able to move the ball close enough when hitting off of a tee. What's misleading about it?
By: rmueller24. on 26 Sep 10, 01:13:33
The start of your video is a bit misleading. You're batter starts jis stance 8-10 inches further back from the? tee when using the regular bat versus where he stands with the training bat, that's why he's catching the ball deeper in the zone with the training bat.

True. But it's not that velocity is less important. It's that there is more OPPORTUNITY to increase the overall force by increasing mass (by improving mechanics). It's like putting in golf. The line and the distance control of the putt are equally important, but people always talk about distance control being the most important because the line is fairly simple to get right in comparision. Plus the pitcher provides half the speed but hitter provides 100% of the mass.?

To provide a likeness to this action, one can look at an ice skater... they perform a spin move, and they will rotate far slower with their? arms extended (due to centrifugal force and momentum). As they bring their hands in towards the body, their spin rate will accelerate due to the reduced momentum resistance from bringing mass more towards the center of rotation. This is why your teachings are correct. Carlos Pena hits ball far due to his amazing bat speed.
