I would say update. For 1 thing its free. The folders utility is great to unclutter your screen. I do lots of photography. The geolocator took all my old photos and shows me where I was when I snapped them. My expensive digital SLR does? that. This was free. It wasn't mentioned, but the lock feature that prevents the screen from inadvertently rotating alone was worth it for me. Nothing to lose except time it takes,which can be a bit.

Since most of these older macbooks are out of warranty now anyway, a cheaper option is to send them to somebody like us: MacReboot, or missionrepair, or techrestore. It is a lot cheaper than? using the Apple store (under $200), and the three mentioned shops all use genuine parts.
