If it could be made to handle the power, I honestly think it would be excellent. They really are as smooth as you can get. And to fix the wide-open-throttle drone problem, I'm sure that Rolls Royce (BMW) could simply program it to simulate gear shifts anytime that the occupants might become aware of the noise.? The CVT in my dad's Suzuki SX4 has a "manual" mode which lets you shift through six set ratios, and it works well. But, again, big power is a problem, especially in this battleship.

You think a CVT is really worse than a manual without synchros? Where you have to match revs on every gear change? Yeah, that'd be great for a Rolls. CVT's have a couple problems. When you mash the throttle, the engine stays at one RPM and that sounds annoying if you're used to normal transmissions. And, they aren't strong enough for big engines because of their design. But if your car is? very quiet and/or you don't floor the thing, there's nothing wrong with how a CVT performs.

I hope I never to get to a point in my life where I desire a car like this. Don't get me wrong, it is a tremendous car and I? wouldn't say no to one. But I see this car as lacking the thrill and passion that I want out of a good drive. Even when im 70 I hope I still drive for passion, not relaxation.

Also, by the time it had passed gas prices didn't climb like a rocket. Despite the heavy taxation of oil in Europe, prices in 1975 were low compared to other commodities. Indeed fuel economy wasn't an issue to? Europeans that didn't drive huge trucks the size of the Titanic (Ford F-series).

I have a Ninja 650R. Turbo engines are fine but theres nothing like a sharp NA motor, and its a shame BMW didn't use the 1M as a swan song for the inline 6. W/European N52s making 270HP out of the box, I am sure M-Power could have ditched Valvetronic and coaxed ~300 HP out of the N52 at ~8000RPM, and saved more weight on the nose with the magnesium block. It would have been brilliant. But this shows there? is big life in the N54, as well as BMW's ability to make good turbo lumps

see my videos for what i drive. in the NA space i have also driven the 250hp r32. for comparison in charged engines i have lately driven the 2.0 tfsi and 1.4 tsi from VW. the flat torque curve makes for better power usage, so at same power rating it feels stronger than a NA engine. still, the turbo lag is there. fast response? NO! even in the newest? turbos the response is by far not as immediate as with a NA engine. power delivery is not as good and will never be. it's physically impossible

'Best' is quite subjective in context. Personally I reckon Porsche's Mezger six is a 'better' engine than anything produced by BMW. ? Ferrari's flat plane V8s are also epic. BMW's sixes are absolutely glorious engines to behold but 'best' I think needs qualification. :)

In a car with a roll cage, you should ALWAYS wear a helmet. This is partially because of the potential of hitting your head on a bar in the event of a crash. Race cars also rely on immobilizing the driver in the event of a crash, so proper bucket seats and a neck brace are used. In the Noble, there are no bucket seats and no neck brace, and instead of a racing harness there is an? airbag and a 3-point belt. The interesting thing is that most rally cars (WRC and certainly this Skoda) are required to be fully road legal and insured for road use. This is for transportation between stages, as the car must use its own power to travel from one to another. If you had the money, you could be taking one of those Skodas out to the supermarket? every day, just like with the Noble.

The biggest problem is that in Europe, gas is now 3 times more expensive than in US.? Also we pay a tax that is equal to the car CO2 emissions. Thats why all cars now have smaller engines here. Also Europe and Asian cars are meant to drive corners which US arent much also because US has quite straight roads. So they have downforce wings etc. I get the idea of Muscle cars, i like Mustangs, but i like rally more.

Did you even listen to the video? The car wasn't made for magnificent specs to be written down on a sheet of paper saying how fast it could get 0-100km (0-60miles); it was made for the driver. It is a car that was created to bring enjoyment to the driver by being able to have superb handling? and optimum power to weight. From what I heard from two people having had H1V8s (one Ariel 3.0, one 2.8 in a Westfield) both had heat issues and in one case a heat nest building up? between the two cylinder blocks causing crank bearing failure. AFAIK those problems arise as soon as you try to tune the V8 down to make it compliant with local emissions laws. We could get the Atom V8 road legal here with roughly 460 HP instead of it's full 500... Same applies to the standard versions of H1V8.

True, the D1 is not road legel. I doubt the Caterham would be in the US either, but in parts of Europe yes. I haven't heard of Hartley V8 issues, what are they? I trust that Dennis would pick a good product, so maybe any issues have been resolved. They did their first couple track tests with the D1. The V8 had no issues, but was only revved to 5k rpm (redline at 10.5k), so we'll see when they? really push the car.

The Hartley V8 would maybe keep me off as well as I heard? of unsolved reliability issues but on the other hand Dennis Palatov is a cool guy and a pleasure to deal with...

I'm not saying that we haven't been V8 crazy in the past. What I'm trying to say is that it seems like the Europeans care more about horsepower than we do. I feel like, while we are busy over here pumping out 4 cylinders TRYING to aim for better? fuel economy in a lot of our cars, the Europeans are over there still producing V6's and V8's......although it is a shame that their V6's get better gas mileage while at the same time producing (you guessed it) more horsepower.

I guess you can speak for all Europeans. I know many personally that are happy with their diesels. And diesel is more efficient, and therefore the more? responsible option. Why do you think it's used for freight, trains, trucks, buses, cargo ships? Because it's cost effective! If our infrastructure catered diesel more, there wouldn't be such a price difference. And it's not even a large difference anyways, 50 cents to a dollar per gallon, which is more than made up for in efficiency.

I should've stated earlier that the RS6 Avant has a limiter on it (It's an estate car). But if you have a big wallet, then it may be no issue to have the limiters turned off. In my opinion, it seems that Audi and Porsche have similar performance levels, despite the fact that they? create completely different types of cars. Well the RS6 Avant comes with a speed limiter, and unless you pay a ridiculous amount of cash it will stay that way, so technicly it doesn´t, but sure it has enough engine for it ofc, and the R8 V8 top speed is 186, i just checked it to confirm? your statement. And it´s flat 6 not V6.

More than just the Audi R8 V10, the RS6 Avant(I think that's the name) can top 200 mph on the autobahn (that's what the test driver? says). And I think too that the R8 V8 version can beat 188 mph. But I'm pretty sure there's more audis can that can do the same. Now to your other comment. I don't think they are any NA V6 cars that can challenge the Carrera S.

The BMW has more power (both HP and Torque) and costs almost the same. It is 200 kilos heavier. Is it a pure track car? No, but neither is the GTR - it just does everything the BMW does (and almost all other exotics) and does it better. The BMW does have a better interior if that makes you feel better... BMW is about passion? I am not passionate about losing - so here we have different priorities. They both have DCT's and again the BMW? is a bigger, heavier car. More passion? Where?
