typically the volts go up and down all day and the fan will often stall. the fan runs at 2.9 volts minimum but will not start from stalled until about 6 volts.i just want it to only turn the fan on when? 6v is reached by the cap. i tried using transistors but it fades rather than triggers. i ordered a quad op amp but it wont be here for another few days. surely there must be something im missing. there must be an easier way to do this.... lol

The only thing I was disappointed in? with this video is the fact that all the RVP I've seen in circuits have been in the form of a diode placed across the battery oriented to conduct only when the power is connected backwards. The result is a brief but brilliant light coming from the fuse when you plug the 12V in backwards. I like the MOSFET solution better, if only because it means fewer trips to the hardware store.

you can get some bare dice by carefully (hehe) burning the plastic package of a chip then when it turns white and stops smoking, you can carefully break it in half, and the die will pop right out, ready? to view. Some experimentation with heat will get some decent dice. also, a big power resistor (hollow) is excellent since heat control is very good (just control current through it).

I got? a cheap knockoff version of this microscope, and they really are the shiznit! Same experiences that he had, but one extra bonus, if you turn the mag/focus on mine all the way opposite of 200X, it? becomes a passable infinity focus webcam. Only drawback to mine is the fact you have just 2 LED light levels, and off. I would recommend these kind of microscopes for everyone!

How is the color fidelity? I am severely colorblind and usually identify color codes on wires, resistors, ect. by snapping a shot with my phone and using? the color picker tool in Paint Shop Pro. Unfortunately, it's hard to get enough area to sample and the flash is useless at close distances (too bright and too blue).

Technically speaking you could re-purpose a software to redirect your files, it might not be very efficient but if you REALLY need to save your files elsewhere you can use a software like febooti Automation Workshop to trigger whenever files are saved and move them somewhere else, or you could modify the software for that purpose, whichever seems easier! Have you attempted to use the microscope for inspecting decapped ICs and other components? It looks like it might be enough magnification, and clear enough to do it, but its hard to? say without having seen it tried. Most optical scopes do 100x-500x (or even more), but I don't know where the edge of the usability is.

Unfortunately you can't just pick a distance and magnification then adjust the focus as you can with regular microscopes. There are fixed distances and magnifications where things are in focus. Some long distance examples are 5cm / 15x, 10cm /? 10x, 15cm / 9x. When you factor in shallow depth of field as well I don't think I would use it for real time soldering.

@Afrotechmods Hi, I like the review, but it would help if you mention one feature that I find important for all kinds of microscopes: What is the working distance of the scope (distance to object)? The site for the product says "up to 300mm from the object" - could you please verify? It would be very helpful to know if I can use it while sticking the soldering iron and pincers under it, or is it good only for inspection because of too short distance from? the board?

With Linux just use Cheese - it works with most webcams out of the box, and? uses the full resolution of the camera inside. Only drawback is the button does not work at all, you need to press the space on the keyboard. Can take single shot, multi shot or video.

I would like to see more reviews of DMMs. I have bought loads of Extech MT-26 from Jameco, only to discover weird quirks in the current measurements (like if you set them to uAmps, and the current is milliAmps, they report the wrong number, not overflow). You may want to consider the SDS7102 for the same price (also a 100MHz scope). Check out the review by marmad22 in the related videos. Saelig sells the VGA+LAN version (most up-to-date hardware and firmware), and throws in a? free carrying/storage bag for it :)

Thanks for the very nice review. I own both the SDS? 6062 and the PDS 5022S. (The latter is now for sale--can't justify having two!) Both give you a lot of bang for the buck. I would note that these scopes are very lightweight: 1.8 kg (4 lbs.) for the 6062, and 1.6 kg (3.5 lbs.) for the 5022S. I place mine at eye level on a shelf above my workbench, and I haven't experienced the slippage problem. Maybe it's just a matter of positioning, or --more likely-- the texture of the surface.

Because the red material is a very brittle substance and? because of limitations of the manufacturing process....well, shortcuts, they form red LED's in a different ways to other colors. Blue and green (the high intensity type, not the decades old green LED) use the same or a very similar semiconductor type, while the red one is completely different. So it could be that they need a different connector pattern (the lines are small wires) to light? up over the whole die. Or an even simpler explanation: blue and green dies come from one factory line and red, being a different technology from another and the patterns just happen to be different.

These LEDs don't have a lens at all (they are meant to be very diffuse). You can't really have a clear view of the die in white LEDs. The "grainy? gunk" is a yellow fluorescent phosphor to make white LEDs white in the first place (ok, the grainy thing might be to make them even more diffuse, but the gunk is needed)! White LEDs are normally blue LEDs covered in this phosphor. While the mix of blue and yellow light looks white, the spectrum is still crap in cheap white LEDs.

It's more likely they use 3 chips because it's easier to distribute the heat (LEDs still produce an awful lot of it). Secondly, white LEDs are actually blue LEDs covered in yellow fluorescent phosphor (the grainy yellowish you see). With multiple chips it's easier to get reproduceable spectrum. Additionally it's easier to get 3 small chips to spec than a single larger one, which means less rejects.?

You should get one with a clear lens, then it would be easier to make out the individual chips. I'm guessing the grainy gunk on the lens is for coloring the light, giving it a "warmer" temperature as well as diffusion? Very? interesting to look at non the less!

Perhaps they use the same process as when creating rgb units, but instead of the different materials for each colour they just make all 3 white and tie the poles together internally. Likely easier and? cheaper than a single, higher power diode.

Most LED switch times should be more than fast enough to deal with a relay coil's spike, so things are okay in that department. But what is the peak current rating of the LED? If there is 150mA through? the relay coil when it is on, the LED would have to handle that for a few milliseconds when you turn it off. Also, double check the peak reverse voltage rating of the LED (unlikely to be a problem with 12V and under relays).

There is no extra current spike coming from the inductor, only a voltage spike. The peak current through the inductor will be the same as whatever the current through the motor is in the steady? state on situation.

Very interesting and useful video!, I´m a electronics engineering student right now and your videos had helped a lot, now, one question, what if you put another diode between the motor/diode and the power supply so when you switch off the motor current cannot flow back to the power supply avoiding it to dangerously recharge? or burn?

I wonder what this spike means for the current comming from the voltage source. Since I=V/R, the high V peak should increase the I in a resistance below the inductor. Let's say the current source can deliver 3A, but the current spike coming from the inductor? is 6A -- will the current be drawn from the power supply and therefore kill it?

I didn't have a 1N400 diode handy when I was? messing with my transistor controlled relay switch. I used an LED instead to put across the relay coil so when the relay switched the current would make the LED blink for a second. Do you think that is an ok solution? I kept thinking that the first "blink" drained a little of the current, but then the voltage/current wasn't high enough to make it blink again, so it ended up going back to the transistor.

Thanks for that great explanation, I have been? running a LM555 to a base of a transistor with a diode in reverse to test ignition coils, each time I have? blown the diode, transistor and LM555 every time through voltage spikes, now watching this video I have a much greater understanding. All power MOSFETs that I know of have that diode. However other FETs such as a JFET do? not have the diode. Whether you should add your own additional diode in parallel depends on your application. Parasitic body diodes tend to be kinda "crappy", i.e. slower response time and higher forward voltage drop than a nice discrete schottky diode. So if you were building an H bridge, putting some good schottkys in parallel with each mosfet could get you a little more efficiency.

Normally rated for 20mA. When 100mA is flowing it turns from green to yellow. At 150mA, it slowly and permanently turns yellowy-orange. At 200+mA it permanently turns red and soon fails.

Hi there, I? have regular 5-LED bicycle lights, Chinese-made ($1/unit) sporting Red-Amber-Blue-Amber-Red colors instead of all-red. I detached an LED of a certain color, but apparently all of them lights red when attached directly to 2×1.5V batteries :( I'm still using that bicycle lights until now (I have bunch of them). I thought I would be able to attach colorful LEDs for specific applications, but they all glow red. Of course it's not an RGB LED.

When supply voltage is anything? greater then the total voltage your LED(s) can handle, it must be reduced with a resistor, or this is the result. For example, if using a single LED (3V, 20mA) on a 9V battery, a 300ohm resistor is needed to drop the voltage down to the safe 3V. If you are using multiple LEDs, you can add the voltage in series- 3 LEDs (3*3V=9V) can safely be powered by a 9V without the need for a resistor.

Ive turned a bright / ice white LED to a really deep / bright blue? before. I used a 3.7v 260mAh Lithium Ion Battery with out a resister. -Direct plug n play. It got really hot, then changed from the white to blue slowly and got brighter. The i had to unplug it cause it got so ho i couldn't hold it anymore and it was starting to smell. But when i plugged it back it it didn't work anymore.. :/

i think its neat how small the actual part that lights up is. most of the LED, which is tiny as it is, is just the plastic casing. i would have liked to see you? blow out an LED that doesnt burn out right away :) ..some LEDs sizzle for a little while before burning out. i wonder if you can fiddle with varying voltage/amperage levels to get the best effect. maybe high voltage, low amps? i remember i used to be able to make yellow LEDs sizzle for a while. also id like to see one of those RGB ones

things get complicated additionally because a speaker isn't a straight resistive load and it has its own inductance (of the voice coil). So? depending on the speaker, the crossover points might move around. That's why most of the time, those generic crossovers sold for "4 ohm" or "8 ohm" speakers don't work well. There are a number of pieces of software that can accurately measure loudspeaker parameters using nothing more than your soundcard. I like audioTester myself.

Inductors are made of wire, which has a certain amount of resistance. If you push too much current through them then you could risk melting the wire, or desoldering the inductor from the PCB, or other thermal disasters. But before? that happens, you would reach "core saturation" which means you can't store any more energy in it once you reach a certain current. So it stops behaving like an inductor after a certain current.

Funny the same thing happend to me i was like 13 i wanted to change the light bulb and asked my dad tot turn it off what happend after that was close to death experience. When i started screwing the bulb the glass shattered(light was on) and i ended up touching the? 2 conducters inside the bulb one pierced in one of my fingers(still have scar)and the other just touched another finger, went unconscious and fell breaking the chandelier and landing on the bed. In a way, you have answered your own question. Constant current sources do exist; You can google around for their? schematics. And the way they often work is by changing the voltage to ensure the current always stays the same, despite a changing load resistance.

The explanation doesn't sound logical to me. How can a constant current source be possible? I thought that the current depends on the sourevoltage and the resistance, because I=U/R. If the current should be constant? the sourcevoltage would have to be variable and thats not the case, or is it? Could someone please explain that to me?

i've made a constant current source using an opamp an a mosfet built into a bench supply i made, it has 6 presets which connects different shunt resistors so i get different current ranges i've made it so it has 100uA 1mA 2mA 10,20 and 40? mA, handy for testing LEDs, zeners up to about 15 volts (or high voltage diodes) and 4 wire resistance measurements

About my case bellow... After a lot argument that the 317 needs 100-120R as R1 to meet the minimum current and Pot as R2 which for some reason was not regulating the Voltage at least without Load,i decided to SCREW the minimum current and add a Fixed R2 and a Potentiometer in Series to 100Ohm resistor as R1 and? BINGO! Bingo boys,3 nights in a row and my first thought worked better,but the nights were still gone. I really should have got another Regulator like LM1084 which i know inside out.

For some reason while everything is wired perfectly,pinout set right,etc,the damn thing gives ~15v out while set to ~13.8,and while the Input stays ROCK stable,when 90mA load is added it drops at least 5v,if R2 set exactly with a trimmer,a bigger dropout is caused.Added more? minimum load,changed the R1 to 120?,and tried multiple combinations. I'm getting equipment for my? workbench, and I'm actually going to build my power supply for test circuits, but that will be with fixed voltage regulators for +12V, +10V, +9V, +7V, +6V, +5V, +3V, and +1.5V. You can make a current regulator with a LM317 by connecting a resistor between the output and adjust pins and (for a current source)? connect the load between adjust and ground or (for a current sink) between the power supply and input with adjust grounded. Current is 1.25 / resistance; e.g. 10 ohms = 125 mA (adjust pin current can be ignored except at low currents). This also works with fixed regulators like the 7805, but it needs more voltage to run properly (vout + 2).

I built this with a 10k potentiometer 1k resistor and 12v power supply. I can get 1.42v - 11.09v. It will light a couple leds but it won't run a 12v 0.08a cpu fan. I can run the fan hooked to a 20k potentiometer. The fan will start when it hits about 6.7v. Am I doing something wrong? or what? Forgive me if this is obvious but I'm pretty new to this. Thanks

This circuit hurts when I look at it. It contains a possible short. The charging current of the peak detector is dv/dt*C. A 2 Volt peak? in 1 millisecond at 10uf would result in a 20mA current draw from the output of the opamp. A higher and sharper peak probably won't damage the opamp, but still, it is not very nice. I would add a 100 ohm series resistor just to be safe,

I'm? thinking of using this circuit with two thermistors on the two inputs as part of an automatic temperature compensating thermistor-based low fuel warning system on a motorcycle. The factory ones are thermistor based, but very crude. They only use one thermistor and are subject to temperature extremes that render them inoperable...

The beta of your transistor was probably different. Not all 2n2222s are going to act the same. This changes drastically with temperature. It's best to design so you can disregard temperature changes and component variation. Do a parameter sweep from 50-400 and it should give you? a decent range of possible values. Component values can never be "exact". The simulation isn't even exact! You'll get close enough to never notice, though.

If you only want to block the DC from being amplified, why not just use the capacitor? In other words, why not? use a resistor of infinite value (open circuit)? I suppose you can hear below 15Hz, true, but it's still an extra component.

Sounds like the caps in your VFD are bad. Allen Bradley and? GE both have service manuals online. GEs is at geindustrial dawt cawm. Often VFDs self-diagnose and they might catch it with an error code on the display. What maker/model is it?

i know right. those theory profs probably have never touched a circuit in their life. it's really hard to connect all that math to the? real world without someone showing you how. this is why we need teachers to begin with. yet, they teach straight book theory shit that you can't figure out how to use. i can appreciate the necessity for theory, otherwise we'd just be technicians, but we really need the applied side in the engineering curriculum too.
